How You Can Help

There are three ways:

Donate Now Through Network for Good

1. You Can Volunteer

  • Work in our office and respond to inmate requests
  • Work directly with inmates at the Jail
  • Work with us in the Jail's visitor line
  • Help us pick up property at police districts
  • Work at home on inmate typing projects

"Over the years, I have been asked to check on pets, arrange visits with lawyers, verify prospective employment for work release, follow up on bond availability and arrange phone visits with children. Many requests were similar in nature; each was unique in human need."

 VSC Volunteer

"For a person I have never met, you are a very important person in my life -- like the light at the end of a long dark tunnel and I pray God gives you the strength to shine on! Because what would the world do without people like you? Shine on!"

Special call for volunteers... The VSC Board of Directors is always seeking prospective members who have a particular interest in fundraising and benefit planning. If you have an interest in helping out, please call VSC at 202-544-2131 or write to us at 1422 Massachusetts Avenue SE, Washington, DC 20003.

2. You Can Donate

Checks can be made payable to "Visitors' Services Center" and sent to

Visitors' Services Center

VSC is a 501(C)(3) organization and your contribution is tax deductible in its entirety.

You may also contribute through the United Way/CFC campaign. Our United Way number is 8207. Our CFC number is 53470.

Or you may donate online through Network for Good.

"I just want to say that if I had 2 million dollars, I would split 1 million between my mother and my children; the other million would be portioned: $999,995 for Visitors' Services Center and $5 for me to come meet the staff (subway $1.50) and get a 5 wing chicken special with fries and extra mumbo sauce ($3.50). The only thing that would keep my heart from being content that day is if there was not enough ketchup on my fries."

3. You Can Write a Letter of Support

If we have helped you in any way or if you would generally like to cheer on the work that we do, a letter of thanks and/or support is always welcome. Such letters are enormously helpful to our ongoing fundraising needs.

"My friends and I want to write letters of support for VSC. We will start tomorrow, because the NBA championship games start tonight."
