Executive Director

We are seeking a full time Executive Director to provide direction based on the VSC strategic plans, including the overall management and operation of our small non-profit organization. Primary duties include fundraising to support our mission, providing leadership, goals and vision for the organization's future, and properly communicating that vision internally and externally. In collaboration with the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will also protect financial assets, while ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and requirements to maintain foundation non-profit status.

Visitors’' Services Center (VSC)

is a unique 501(c) 3 non-profit organization that is solely dedicated to helping prisoners while they are incarcerated and newly released to create, maintain and strengthen family and community ties to assist in a successful transition back into our community. Since 1969 VSC has served countless D.C. jailed inmates and returning individuals and their loved ones, attorneys, judges, Department of Corrections and Correctional Corporation of America - Community Treatment Facility (CCA-CTF) staff. www.vscdc.jails.net



Salary

is commensurate with similarly situated local nonprofit advocacy organizations, depending on experience and qualifications.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage daily operations and tactical decisions of organization
  • Identify, assess and inform the Board of Directors of internal and external issues that affect the organization
  • Mentor, train and develop staff and volunteers
  • Maintain and develop relationships with collaborative and funding partners including the Department of Corrections and Correctional Corporation of America-Community Treatment Facility (CCA-CTF) staff, legal community, City Council, community service programs, and private foundations and donors.

Job Requirements

  • University degree in a related field and at least 3 years of experience in management
  • Firm commitment to the mission and principles of VSC
  • Demonstrated experience in nonprofit management including skills in financial management, donor cultivation, fundraising, grant writing and human resources
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to successfully plan, implement and deliver strategic results while maintaining the flexibility to respond quickly and effectively to sudden changes in the nonprofit environment
